Abstract

In the rapidly evolving landscape of the music industry, the digital age is shifting existing and creating new ethical implications. This study navigates the terrain of ethical complexities introduced by the amalgamation of streaming platforms and social media into the music industry. Through a thorough investigation encompassing quantitative and qualitative analysis of consumer knowledge and ethical awareness, additionally addressing an interview with an industry expert to gather professional perspectives on the uprising of ethical concerns surrounding digital technology. Discussing these results and concerns gathered from entry level and professional musicians and stakeholders, we highlight the ethical dimensions of artist compensation and industry competitiveness incited by streaming platforms such
as spotify, moreover discussing the influence of social media on musicians and their managers mental health. Uncovering a greater need for awareness, transparency and support mechanisms within the industry. Finally, by gathering an understanding of the ethical landscape emerging from within the digital music era aims to offer actionable strategies for fostering ethical conduct, creative autonomy and transparency within the industry to create a more sustainable and responsible industry.
