Warner, Samuel Thomas (2024) Transmission towers: how can a narrative be portrayed through progressive roc?. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
Transmission Towers as a project sets out to produce a side-length progressive rock song with the sole purpose of conveying a self-contained narrative. The track is a concept piece with no intent to be commercially released and as such is composed within FL Studio and has temporary vocals for the sake of showcasing the lyrics alone. The principles and techniques of previous prog bands and examined, utilised and built upon, with the final result being distributed in anonymised surveys to receive an average impression of its storyline, and comparing this with the original intended narrative to determine success. More practice research is required in planning and delivery for the artefact or any like it to achieve its goal to the greatest effectiveness achievable.
