Larter, Jordan (2024) Here be monsters: an exploration into tank controls and their relevance in modern gaming. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether tank controls and fixed camera perspectives still hold a place in today’s gaming market. This was achieved by creating an demonstrative artefact of a survival horror game and asking participants to play it then answer variations of the Player Experience of Need Satisfaction (PENS) and Game Experience Questionnaire (GEQ) followed by a semi-structured interview. The results of these investigations indicate that there is still an interest in the gameplay offered by traditional survival horror games with every participant showing interest in seeing more games in this style
