Referencing is important in academic work because it shows where you have used others' ideas.
First, make sure you are following the referencing system used in your department. Check your course handbook or ask your tutor if you are unsure.
You can get help and advice on referencing from Library staff and from the Library's one-stop website called Referencing@Portsmouth.
There are also tools available to help you store, manage and format your references. However, be aware that you may still need to check and edit formatted references, particularly for unusual sources.
Anyone can use Referencing@Portsmouth - there is no need to login.
You'll find a referencing link on every Library web page. Just click on the icon to go to Referencing@Portsmouth.
