Finding a book

It can be difficult to know where to start when you need to find a book.

Firstly, you will need to check that the book is available and you will need to know the 'shelfmark', or combination of numbers and letters, which denote its location in the Library.  To do this, you will need to search for the book using the Library Catalogue.

Who is it for?

Everyone, including visitors, can use the Library catalogue.

Look for the broad range of numbers at the top or on the ends of shelves to help you find the right area.

Where and when?

You can find the Library Catalogue on the Library website.

On any laptop or desktop PC, click on the blue button in the top right-hand corner of most of our web pages and enter your query into the Library Catalogue box on the Search Page.

On your mobile phone or tablet, tap the blue spyglass icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen and then use the Library Catalogue search box to look for books and ebooks.

A direct link to the catalogue is also provided below.
