Borrowing from the Library

Borrowing items

You can borrow items from the Library using our self-service kiosks.

You can also check your library account and renew your loans on the kiosks, as well as pay any library charges on the Self Payment system. You may borrow up to 21 items at any one time in addition to any ebooks that you download.  For those of you who are not based in Portsmouth, we offer a Document Delivery Service for distance learners.  Your books will be issued to you for four weeks initially.  They will automatically renew themselves after three weeks so long as no-one else places a reservation through the catalogue to request them.  We will email you confirmation of any renewed loans and their new due date.  If any of your books are requested by someone else, that book loan will not renew and you will receive an email sent to your University email account asking you to bring the requested book within seven days.

Please always open and read your Library emails.  If you delete or archive the automatic renewal emails, there is a risk that Google Mail will automatically treat all future Library emails as spam.  This might then mean you do not receive emails recalling books that others have reserved, and when these books become overdue you will accrue overdue charges.  Checking your emails therefore helps you avoid being charged for overdue reserved books.
