Login problems for Moodle and Library eresources occuring after a failed one-time password login to Moodle

Posted: Mon, 17th Apr 2023

Some people are experiencing difficulties logging into Moodle from off-campus using a one-time password that is then impacting their ability to access some Library eresources.  IS are working to find a permanent workaround to this problem.  This appears to be caused by web browser attempting to use cookies and cached files (remembered past versions of web pages and their associated files) to speed up the login process.

If you use the VPN to log in from off-campus, you will not have to log in using a one-time password and should thereby avoid this problem.  If this problem does occur, deleting or telling your browser not to use these cached files after each login appears to be the only available workaround:

Workarounds

Workaround 1:  Clear your browser cache and browsing history and then close and re-open your web browser.   Click this link for guides to clearing your browser data for all the popular web browsers.

Workaround 2:  Press Control + Shift + N to open a new private browsing/incognito window and then log in using this new window.

It is likely that this error will keep popping up, and the only workaround for the time being is what we have listed above. Please be assured that IS are investigating this issue with the highest priority, and we will contact you again once we have further information.
