Dr Emily Davey, Research Outputs Manager
I manage the Research Outputs team. We’re based in the Library but work closely with the department of Research and Innovation Services (RIS). The main areas we cover are open access publishing, copyright, managing research data, producing data management plans for funding applications and bibliometrics. As open access publishing and research data are now essential requirements of external funders, the team plays a vital role in ensuring that the University secures future funding.
I hold an MSc in Information and Library Management (distinction), which was awarded in 2016. However, I have been at the University of Portsmouth since 1999. After completing my undergrad degree in Computer Science in 2002, I completed my PhD in Creative Technologies in 2007. Prior to working in my current role in the Library, I was the Senior Online Developer in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences for 6 years.
Dr Gary Pike, Research Data Officer
I joined the Research Outputs team as the Research Data Officer in September 2017. My role involves providing guidance on all aspects of research data management, including licencing, data protection issues, storage, security and backup, project management, technical issues such as file size and types, and archiving data and making it open access. I’m able to review Data Management Plans for funding applications and provide detailed feedback. The ‘other half’ of my role involves validating datasets in Pure to ensure compliance with funding body requirements. Prior to this role, I completed my PhD in physical Geography at the University of Portsmouth in August 2013. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Dr Andrew Clark, Research Outputs Officer
I joined the Research Outputs Team in October 2014 after working for over a year as a Research Administrator in the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies. Prior to this I received my PhD in philosophy and literary theory from the University of Portsmouth in January 2012. As Research Outputs Officer my role involves validating the REF-eligible outputs that have been entered into Pure to ensure that they comply with copyright and licensing laws. I also support the application process for Article Processing Charges (APCs). I am happy to receive any queries that relate to HEFCE's open access policy for the next REF. Please contact me at email@example.com
Soozi Mead, Research Outputs Assistant
My role involves making sure the research shared on the Portsmouth Research Portal abides by copyright and licensing laws. I validate all elements of the University’s research outputs submitted into Pure, and compile data for the RCUK, which helps the University monitor the progress it is making towards complying with HEFCE's Open Access policy. I am an advocate for the value, ethics and ethos of open access and like to work to improve freedom of access to knowledge and information.
I have over 17 years experience of working in libraries in higher education, specialising in the areas of cataloging and archiving. I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and hold a Post-Graduate Certificate in teaching in Higher Education. Please feel free contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
