Celebrating Black History Month

It's October again, which means it is Black History Month, when we celebrate and highlight the ongoing struggles, achievements and role models of the Peoples of the Global Majority (PGM).  In addition to a few upcoming blog posts exploring the ongoing and increasing need for increased empathy and understanding for the experiences of people of different ethnicities, and the increasing social violence, we have a couple of events taking place in the Library.

Black History Month Friday film afternoon

Coming up this Friday (10 October 2025), join us for our first Library Friday film afternoon.  We'll be in UL 0.26 (Library Seminar Room 2) and kicking off the screenign at 4.30 pm.  There will be clear signposting from the Library Atrium and our friendly Library team will be happy to help you find your way.  Please sign up on Eventbrite to let us know you're coming!

We will be showing one of two fascinating documentaries from our Kanopy streamed video collection.  You can find the full range of Kanopy documentaries, classic movies, and more on the Library website and watch them from home for free - that certainly beats the price of any other TV subscription!

Black History Month crafternoon

Celebrating this year's theme of standing in pride and power, create your own aphoristic artwork or affirmation card to keep or share.  Crafting is a proven way of relaxing and unwinding in the middle of a busy week, offering mindful engagment for hands and heart that allows the mind to clear and refocus.  You might even meet new people and make a few new friends :)

Join us in the Library Atrium between 1-3 pm on Monday 20 October.  We'll provide everything you need.
