End note - 'End' written in a note book

From February 2026, users of EndNote will be required to change their password at least once every 180 days (around once every 6 months).

Before this change takes place, all EndNote users need to make sure their EndNote account is linked to an email account they still use and can access to ensure ongoing access to EndNote.

What to do now

If you do not use EndNote

If you do not use EndNote, you do not need to do anything.  You might like to read one of our other blog posts ;-)

If you no longer want to use EndNote, you could explore alternative reference management platforms.

If you have an EndNote account (that you still use)

If you are an EndNote user, you must check your EndNote account is linked to an email account you can still access before the end of January 2026.  Go into EndNote > Options > Email address and, if necessary, relink your account to an email account you currently use and can access.

When asked to reset your account password, go to Options > Password and a link to reset your password will be emailed to your registered email address.  For this reason, failure to update your email address may result in you becoming locked out of your account after you are required to update your password.
