Notebook with the word "End" written at the bottom right of the last page - an 'end note".

Clarivate, the owners of EndNote have told us that from February 2026, users of EndNote will be required to change their password at least once every 180 days (around once every 6 months). Changing your password regularly for any system helps maintain security, albeit at a cost of having to remember of securely store a revolving selection of passwords.  You can get Microsoft Edge to remember your passwords for ease of re-use and it will remember them across your devices if you have it set to 'sync' (synchronise) across devices.

What you must do now

If you do not use EndNote

If you do not use EndNote, you do not need to do anything.

If you have an EndNote account that you still use

Check your linked email account is one you still use

If you are an EndNote user, you must check that your EndNote account is linked to an email account you can still access before the end of January 2026.  Go into EndNote > Options > Email address and, if necessary, relink your account to an email account you currently use and can access.

Get ready to reset your password regularly

When asked to reset your account password, go to Options > Password and a link to reset your password will be emailed to your registered email address.  For this reason, failure to update your email address may result in you becoming locked out of your account after you are required to update your password.
