You can telephone anywhere on campus, including your department, tutor or the IS Service Desk for free from the red telephone box in the Library opposite the IT Help Desk in Area 0A on the ground floor.
The only slightly tricky thing about the phone box is that it has a rotating dial instead of a push button keypad (this is where the term 'dialling' a number originally came from). Using this retro technology is easy enough when you know how.
Just insert your finger over the number you wish to dial and move it all the way to the right until your finger is stopped by the metal strip, then take your finger out and let the dial completely reset itself before dialling the next number. The good news is that you need only enter the last four digits of any telephone number using this telephone.
The red phone box in the library
Near the desk on the ground floor you may notice a large red vintage telephone box. It's not just for show - here you can make free calls to any internal telephone number in the University, great for calling your tutor or a colleague
