You can telephone anywhere on campus, including your department, tutor or the IS Service Desk for free from the red telephone box in the Library opposite the IT Help Desk in Area 0A on the ground floor.  Simply dial the telephone extension to call any member of University staff.

Some people are put off by the rotary dial - this is where the term 'dialling' a telephone number originally came from - all phones worked this way once upon a time!  Using this retro technology is easy once you know how: simply insert your index finger in the slot for the first number you want to dial and move the entire dial clockwise all the way round until your finger is stopped by the metal strip, take your finger out and wait for the dial to return to its starting position, and then dial the next number in sequence.  When you have entered the entire extension number, wait for the phone to ring at the other end.

The red phone box in the library

Near the desk on the ground floor you may notice a large red vintage telephone box. It's not just for show - here you can make free calls to any internal telephone number in the University, great for calling your tutor or a colleague
