Most recent (since 2014) University of Portsmouth theses are held online in the Portsmouth Research Portal.

Looking for Printed Theses?

The Library Catalogue contains records of printed theses which have been submitted. You can search for theses by clicking on the search button at the top right of this page then entering your query in the Library Catalogue box on the search page. To restrict your search to theses only, select 'Theses' instead of 'all items' from the form's drop down menu. A query can be the author or title keywords.

MPhil and doctoral dissertations are kept in Reserve stock, not out on the open shelves. You must request your selected theses at the Library Help Desk. Theses are available for 4-week loan.

eDissertations

A selection of student dissertations are held in our online edissertations database. All visitors can search the database and view abstracts however only members of the University are allowed to download the complete document.

Please note that the database is not comprehensive with contributions to the database chosen by the relevant School or Faculty. If an item has not been submitted, the Library will not be able to provide any information about a dissertation.

The Theses collection

The Library has a large collection of mPhil and doctoral thesis from past students. Many University of Portsmouth thesis are held online. These electronic thesis can be found through the Library website. From here you can search on our entire electronic thesis collections. The advanced search opens up a new search page offering more precise searches where you can specify the title, author and abstract for a thesis. If you wish to borrow a printed thesis simply take a note of the details of the one you want from the search and ask at the desk. A member of Staff will fetch it for you. Like books you can borrow thesis indefinitely until someone else requests them.

eDissertations

Some University of Portsmouth dissertations are stored in electronic format. The search box on the Library homepage will allow you to see the collection. Keyword searches match against the title, author and abstract of the dissertation. You can also browse for eDissertations by year course or author.
