Abstract
This combined project examines the role of the video editor in production work such as, film and television and explores the skills necessary to contribute to the audiences understanding of a story. It discusses the history and evolution of video editing and the prospects for people within this profession. A variety of research methods were used to obtain the necessary information, in the form of qualitative and quantitative research. Primary research included interviews with aspiring editors, to gather an understanding of the workflow, processes and techniques used when editing, and questionnaires were sent to industry professionals, to gather an understanding of how the editor contributes to the audience’s understanding of the story. Secondary research was developed in the form of a literature review which involved books, articles, journals and websites. Finally, an in-depth analysis of the research finding is presented.
