Green, Connor (2019) Functional customisation in games and its industry/consumer impact. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
Because player agency is a key factor in determining how a game will be played and by extension, how satisfactory it is to users, one of the major deciding aspects of consumer satisfaction as well as videogame and developer success, is player agency. This paper looks at functional customisation in games as a type of quantitative gameplay interaction, derivative of player agency, evaluating existing games as well as developing a controlled gameplay experience in which participants were gathered to collect data, all of which indicates that consumers may potentially desire functional customisation in games and high quality of its implementation.
