Holland, Daniel (2019) Is the linear broadcasting platform dying?. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth

Abstract

This study discusses how, and why television consumption has changed, and as to whether these changes lead to positive outcomes for the viewers. It also analyses whether the modern way of media consumption is destroying the value of linear broadcasting. In order to find accurate and impartial findings, primary research has been undertaken, in the form of a survey, as well as an interview. The study goes in to in depth analysis into popular consumption trends, and looks into how consumer’s interaction with media has changed. As well as a brief history into television transmission, and British broadcasting, the study also contrasts industry expert’s opinion, on what their intake of the future of television could be.
The study concludes that scheduled broadcasting is still a hugely powerful medium which will always be highly valued, however other platforms, primarily on demand television will begin to dominate television consumption, and become the leading platform in the television landscape.
