Abstract
The researcher has developed an expertise in photogrammetry which he would like to use in his career in the artistic side of the gaming industry. But before developing an artefact displaying this skill in his showreel he needs to determine if there is a demand in the industry for this technique and if so whether there is any other skill which would enhance his chances of getting a job. The researcher investigates this question using quantitative methods by investigating the job market and finds that 10% of artistic jobs in his sample from the gaming industry ask for photogrammetry in the job description. These jobs are examined further and it is found that the most frequent skill requested is texturing followed by modelling. The most frequently requested software to do texturing is Substance Designer/Painter. The portfolios of the games artists who have used this software are then analysed to identify the features which the gaming industry is looking for so that an artefact can be produced which displays these. The artefact is produced using photogrammetry and Substance Designer and Substance Painter and this is analysed to determine if it is successful in showing these features and whether it is suitable for putting in a showreel.
