Abstract
This project aims to find techniques and characteristics of John Williams’s scores for Science Fiction movies. The analysis will be looking in particular at several compositional techniques, the harmony, the rhythm and the melody which are some of the elements, from Main Title’s theme and Darth Vader’s theme from “Star Wars” franchise that will be analyzed and the “Dies Irae”” motive from “Close Encounters of the third kind” will be analyzed as well. John Williams’s influences from other Composers can been seen in these specific scores which are analyzed, using similar techniques but makes a piece of work in his own direction and a more unique work. This analysis will include a discussion for this issue and reveal which elements Williams took from other pieces of music or Artists. Also there will be an analysis of the hidden techniques that John Williams used in his scores which can manipulate the audience’s emotions.
