Ainsworth, Katie (2019) A study on the issues caused by photo manipulation carried out on images used in the public eye. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
This project explores the beginning of photo manipulation before and after the development of Adobe Photoshop and the impact of Adobe Photoshop. on the digital world. The negative consequences of image manipulation in the advertising industry are explored, followed on also by the positive effects and the pros and cons discussed. Political and ethical issues are explored and when image manipulation is thought to be necessary in certain situations. The results of an online survey have concluded the research by revealing that the public are in two minds as to whether they have the ability to tell that an image has been manipulated, the majority agree that an altered image effects how the public perceives the media as an accurate and trustworthy source of information, and the public agree that digitally altered images are difficult to detect.
