Pickett, Kirsty (2019) With schedule television arguably in decline, what do traditional terrestrial broadcasters do?. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth

Abstract

This study investigated whether schedule television is in decline due to the uprising of online streaming and video on demand. Schedule television has always held the majority of the public’s attraction, but more recently, as technology has advanced there has been a shift in viewer activity and a movement can be seen towards online forms of accessing media content. This study found out what traditional broadcasters must do to keep schedule television from dying out. Extensive primary research found out the opinions and predictions for the future from participants that have many years experience working within the schedule television industry. A questionnaire also found out the viewing habits of the public and concluded that younger generations are building preferences towards online streaming platforms. The research conducted indicates that in the future, online streaming and video on demand will dominate, but currently schedule television is still in rather high demand and technology will need further advancements before this can take place.
