Simpson, Megan (2019) What are the defining features of a successful podcast?. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
There are many features within podcasting which could deem it successful, such as its convenience, accessibility and opportunity for diversity. Through research and discussion with industry professionals this dissertation will analyse the defining features that have allowed podcasts to thrive. Through the likes of technology, podcasting has continued to evolve as its own medium, despite being compared to radio broadcasting as it’s ‘on-demand’ extension. Specific content and a particular set of skills are needed when producing a podcast, but due to it being so new, a lack of publications exist in relation to them. The following project will therefore evaluate the most important ingredients of a podcast and explore three case studies in order to support the findings, as well as looking to the future to determine the next step for podcasting and whether or not it has already reached its peak.
