Doherty, Michael (2019) The sound of Southsea: exploring the acoustic ecology of the Southsea area. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
A dissertation aiming to explore the acoustic ecology of the Southsea area. It will explore the different and fundamental ideas surrounding acoustic ecology, attempting to demonstrate such ideas through a piece of music. Musique concrete will also be discussed, showing the links between it and acoustic ecology, again trying to demonstrate acoustic ecologies through a musique concrete piece. This dissertation will also explore the evolving definition of music, make a judgement of the acoustic ecology of the Southsea area, and discuss the methods involved in producing the accompanying pieces.
