Abstract

This research paper look to explore the links between esports, video gaming in general as well as traditional sports. It’s been found that the esports industry is a billion-dollar industry and in a few years’ time it’ll be competing against the likes of the NFL and even the Olympics for viewers. As it stands now there’s a large interest in sponsorship within the industry, however because it’s so new there are many things companies and sponsors have to adjust to as well as improve upon in order to make esports a more legitimate business and sport for everyone to watch and participate in. On top of this, organisations within the esports industry are aligning themselves up more and more like top level sport teams, with physical and mental coaches to help extend the longevity of player’s career. This research shows how esports teams are investing in mental & physical coaches to keep players at the top level as fit and healthy as possible. As a result of all this growth within the video game industry there’s also a worry about health within children who are now looking up to video gamers instead of traditional athletes. So as a result there should be.
