Abstract

The topic of this research project is the translation of the first 2000 words of the book Imola: le jour d’après. This translation is accompanied by a commentary in which I will discuss my translation methods and my use of any relevant academic theory. The aim of this project was to perform a successful translation of the source text in order to make it available for a British audience. To achieve this I performed an in-depth analysis of the genre, text-type and target audience of the source text in order to help me determine relevant translation strategies to overcome translation challenges which I faced. Analysing relevant theory helped me overcome my main translation challenges of culture-specific items and maintaining the aesthetic style of the source text. This analysis of the source text and relevant theory both greatly contributed to enabling me to produce an accurate translation which was suitable for the chosen target audience.
