Al Shawabkeh, Ayah (2020) Automated prefabrication mechanisms in BIM platforms: an empirical case in Jordan. (unpublished MSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
Purpose: An exploratory study was conducted examining the potential for the integration of BIM and prefabrication construction in the context of the Jordanian construction industry.
Method & Design: Two questionnaires were distributed to professionals at general and prefabrication construction companies in Jordan, and the findings were obtained using descriptive statistics. An interpretive approach was used to combine statistical findings with past literary work to develop a foundational conceptual framework of the construction process employing prefabrication and BIM in an integrated model.
Findings: An integrated system using BIM technology and prefabrication processes is identified to have great potential for application provided that some challenges are addressed in the Jordanian construction industry. When applied efficiently, this integration could bring many potential benefits throughout the construction process from beginning to end, including cost savings, better labor productivity, faster completion of projects, mass customization, improved project quality and waste minimisation.
