Abbit, Jasmine (2020) Yemen’s proxy wars, protests and poverty (1970-2020): the importance of human security in international security. (unpublished BA dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
Human Security theory is an under-adopted human development-based approach to security, prioritising the security of the individual in order to prevent globalised poverty and threat. The dissertation argues that the humanitarian crisis in Yemen is an important example for why states should begin to adopt a human security approach within foreign and intervention policy frameworks. The dissertation uses human security as an analytical framework to demonstrate the importance of prioritising the security of the individual, so as to maintain and improve state stability and international order.
