Grange, Alexandra Lee (2021) Does the British Army Organisational culture impacts upon male soldiers reporting domestic abuse?. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
Domestic abuse is becoming a common crime throughout the UK with 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men experiencing it in their life. Most of the current research and data surrounding domestic abuse is focused around female victims or male offenders this study investigates whether the British Army organisational culture impacts male soldiers reporting domestic abuse (DA). A literature review was conducted on the British Organisational culture and another one on the barriers, inhibitors, males face when reporting DA. Once these were done a conceptual framework of both elements was created which was then used to compare the British Army organisational culture and the inhibitors male face when reporting DA by analysing if there was any links between them.
The analysis showed that there was a correlation between the organisational culture of the British Army and the inhibitors males face when reporting DA.
I conclude that conceptually the British Army culture does negatively impact males who are serving from reporting DA in a conceptual aspect, more research involving primary research would need to be conducted to establish a more accurate representation.
