Kasin, Berkay (2021) Photorealistic Big Ben destruction with explosion. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth

Abstract

In this project I will be aiming to simulate a destruction with the 3D package Houdini 18 to create an accurate photorealistic Big Ben Explosion scene from references. Once the simulation is created it will then be composited in The Foundry’s Nuke to achieve photorealism. To create this shot I will be researching in detail how the industry creates Big Ben Explosions, what techniques have they used and how they composited this shot. I will also analyse software through research as I can go into great detail about The Foundry Nuke and SideFX’s Houdini. The final output of this Artefact will be a composited 5-10 seconds VFX shot featuring Big Ben Explosion and Technical Breakdown of this shot. Everything will be referenced from past work and real-life lighting of Big Ben depending on scene time.
