Vincent, Alexander John William (2021) Making two guitar pedals, using two different types of production design. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth

Abstract

The aim of this project is to investigate, under specific circumstances, whether guitar pedal production business’ would benefit from taking the opinions of their customers into account when designing new products, or if these companies should design pedals behind closed doors, without external opinion. Within the project, two guitar pedals will be created; one using public opinion on the design choices and the other completely in house, without external thoughts. Both artefacts will be assembled by myself, including all electronic work and 3D modelling. Upon completion of the project, it is concluded that in house design is marginally preferred over external market research, and, with these findings, it can be assumed that bespoke guitar pedal creators could benefit greatly from internal design and that larger industries might prefer to use external market research, with questionnaire comments supporting this.
