Corbett, Lewis (2021) Creating a 3D environment to demonstrate new game asset creation features & techniques for use in Level 5 teaching material. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
An artefact project for a client that involved creating a 3D environment in Unreal Engine 4 to showcase new technology and skills such as PRB materials, good use of instancing, assets with dynamic properties and multiple light sources. The client is a lecturer at University of Portsmouth and will be using this environment as teaching material to demonstrate these aspects in his Level 5 University unit. In this report I researched the history of 3D Graphics and PBR Materials in Video Games, Critiqued the Level 5 Unit processes of creating assets. The Software I used included 3DS MAX, Unreal Engine, Substance Painter. I used tools and techniques such as Photogrammetry, Particle Systems as well as Unreal Engine Blueprints and Decals. By the end of the project, I had created a 3D Environment that met with all client’s requirements and more whilst gaining valuable skills that I can use for future endeavours.
