Neave, Ruairi (2021) Merging live instruments with synthesis to create a cohesive EP. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth

Abstract

This project creates a three song EP that aims at being a cohesive piece of music, and will track the progress made to achieve the final product through various different stages of development. The project will be creating demo songs using references from artists within the mid-tempo scene before moving onto the sound design and the final stages of mixing and mastering using researched techniques from respected peers within the music industry via YouTube tutorials. The aim of the project is to improve production techniques such as sound design, recording techniques, mixing and mastering, as well as bringing a specific style to the genre. The final product of this project is a three song EP that has different characteristics within each song whilst still keeping a mild cohesive feeling across the EP as a whole. The EP has been submitted to some DJ’s and preferred labels that release mid-tempo music.
