Pack, George (2021) Effective use of sound in horror video games. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth

Abstract

This project aims to identify and analyse the effective use of audio in horror video games. This will be achieved through a combination of primary and secondary research, with a particular focus on the survival-horror sub-genre. An original framework for effective audio use, developed from research undertaken, will be outlined. Following this, two case studies will be completed, using methodology derived from this original framework. After research, an artefact will be created for a pre-existing horror game, consisting of original audio and audio functionality, using the original framework as a blueprint for both sound design and implementation.
