Hiraki, Rika (2021) Discovering the reason why Japan started the Pacific War with America through the motion graphic documentary. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth

Abstract

Japan attacked Pearl Habour in Hawaii and started the Pacific war with America in 1941 on the 8th of December. This project is creating a motion graphic video to raise the number of people understanding the reason why Japan started the war with America.
It is a motion graphic video which combines images and text animation. It covers pre-war history before Japan attacked America to explain what caused Japan to be a nationalist and anti-liberal country to attack southeast Asia and start the Pacific War. This project was produced based on secondary research and primary research which was conducted by the survey.
This project discovered that more than half of the people do not know the reason why Japan started the Pacific war. Both Japanese and non-Japanese are willing to learn this topic with the video source. Also, the video gained positive feedback from the audience where it is a helpful source to learn about Japanese war history.
