Abstract

This research will discuss the current situation of the Kingdom of Bahrain in terms of construction sustainability, what are the measures taken, and what can be done to improve the sustainability in the construction industry. Methods like literature review, surveys, and case studied will be utilized in order to asses the country’s situation and where it stands as to be considered a sustainable country in the industry.

A major issue that is not getting much focus on is the sustainability and the global warming, especially in the construction industry. To help analyse the situation in Bahrain, a questionnaire is distributed that asks general questions about sustainability and sustainable construction. The survey includes topics about construction sustainability, sustainable material, and opinions on green buildings. Furthermore, a building will be studied to evaluate the building material that is currently being used in the country.

Overall, the topic of building sustainability can be described to be ‘average’ in terms of awareness between the people in Bahrain. Also, the current material used in the construction industry can be presumed to be “old fashioned” and behind the trend of sustainable material. 

Although it seems like a long-process task but spreading awareness about construction sustainability and the importance of it should be one of the priorities in the country to improve the general condition of buildings and the comfort of the people.
