Zubair, Zain (2021) GIS and the preservation of historical buildings in Pakistan through BIM. (unpublished MSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth

Abstract

The aim of this research is to establish a method or process for the development of BIM model using GIS data for the preservation of historical buildings in Pakistan. In the current research, the superstructural part of Gymkhana Cricket Club is focused. In an experiment, laser scanning technique, a method of preservation already being used by the local authorities, is used to create scans of the pavilion. The laser scans are then converted into RCP files using Revit software to produce BIM model. The research explores the limitations which make it difficult to implement the transformation of GIS into BIM in order to provide solutions to the problem of preservation of historical buildings in Pakistan which are prone to damage.
