Abstract

This research project is a translation from Spanish to English of approximately 2000 words/9 recipes from a recipe book written by Mariano Orzola, published in 2018 and accessible through the Amazon Kindle Store. The aim of the translation was to provide English versions of the recipes with maximum accuracy and minimal translation loss. This was achievable with the aid of parallel texts, online resources, and multiple online dictionaries. There were many challenges faced in the process of the translation such as the inclusion of culturally specific items, issues with the cohesivity of sentences and the need to conform to the norms of English recipes.
A commentary follows the translation, which addresses the aforementioned issues, along with more, and provides explanations of their solutions. The commentary also analyses the defining properties of the source text.
