Abstract

This research project consists of a translation of an excerpt from the Spanish novel 'La danza de los tulipanes' by Ibon Martín published in 2019, and a translation commentary addressing the difficulties and challenges faced during the translation process. It proposes different methods including the Skopos theory and translation strategies and techniques to justify the translation decisions, regarding the analysis of significant aspects such as genre, function, text type and target audience. The project investigates the impact of the culture-specific items and suggests translation equivalences based on a relevant theory and a parallel text. Moreover, the paper examines challenging language features such as law terminology, idioms, taboo language, and collocations. Overall, the close analysis of the source text and knowledge of the relevant theory contributed to delivering the most accurate translation regarding the target audience.
