Adedibu, Hajarat Adetola (2021) The new public governance practices and public sector performance in the Federal civil service commission, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria. (unpublished MPA dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth

Abstract

The study examined the impact of the new public governance practices on the performance of the Nigerian public sector; particularly in the Federal civil service commission headquarters in the FCT, Abuja Nigeria. It specifically investigated the level of acceptance of the NPG practices in the Nigerian public service delivery; determined the effect of NPG practices on the performance of the Nigerian public sector; and examined the challenges hindering the successful implementation of the NPG practices in the public sector.
Primary data was sourced for the study through questionnaire administration to staff in the organization under consideration with the aid of Google forms and the simple random sampling technique was used to sample staff. Data were analyzed using tables, frequency, percentages, mean and Partial least square structural equation model.
The study discovered that the new public governance practices have gained wide acceptance which include: shared responsibilities, stakeholders’ relationship, information sharing, citizens’ participation and networking. New public governance significantly predicts public sector performance by 72.6%. The three top ranked challenges discovered in the study are bureaucratic bottle-necks (µ=4.03), structural barriers (µ=3.97) and poor governance practices (µ=3.93).
