Morris, Kelsie (2022) An investigation into the CGI cartoon character production pipeline for animation. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
This project will include an evaluation of the stylised character production process in the animation industry, with the main focus on character production for film and a brief exploration into production for games. Investigations will focus on each role within the character design pipeline, from research and design through to animation, and discuss some of the skills that are desirable when applying for vacancies involved in the pipeline. The final artefact will be an original rigged and animated character, whose creation will be based upon research and analysis of the current industry workflow. The artefact will be presented as a rig demonstration video and a short performance animation, and it will be created primarily in Autodesk’s Maya, with some use of Adobe Photoshop in the design stage. A main goal of this project is to assist in the creation of a key showreel piece that will show skills as a 3D generalist.
