Mazur, Liliia (2022) The study of body image and appearance in reality against games. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
The video game industry is lacking in research, change and improvement compared to other media surrounding the topic of body image. Moreover, the majority of research agrees that females are affected the most, however, compared to males there is a significant lack of research for females. This project aims to closely investigate how females are affected.
Alternatively, this project consists of an artefact and an online questionnaire, where both were used to investigate reality against video game character proposals. The artefact consists of concept artwork, and 3D models for two female clients. Additionally, the online questionnaire consists of quantitative methods and was distributed to various age and gender. The results indicated that, both clients and the respondents had decided to have their video game character differ greatly from their reality. Finally, the results from the questionnaire indicated that young people from the ages of 18-20 were affected the most compared to other ages.
