Howard, Cameron (2022) How 3D Animation can be used to create an emotional connection to a 3D character. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
My goal is to understand and use a variety of filmmaking and animation techniques to create an emotional connection between character and audience in a 60 second short film. I will create or source assets that I will then use alongside recordings and references to create a narrative that is clear to follow and provides an immersive experience. to add to the challenge, I am aiming to rely on solely body actions and movement as well as camera and work to build emotion within the narrative, rather than the normal methods of dialogue or facial expressions. To determine if the film succeeded in its goal, I will conduct a survey in which I would ask several people about their thoughts on the film, if it made them empathise with the characters and what about the film impacted their ability to be immersed in the film.
