Parella Argelés, Júlia (2022) Creation of an undergraduate admissions chatbot for the School of Creative Technologies, University of Portsmouth. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
Over recent years, there have been major developments in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP). This has paved the way for advancements in chatbot technologies with the aim of making interactions more conversational and human-like. It’s therefore not uncommon to see Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) using chatbots to widen their communication streams. This project aims to develop an AI chatbot for the School of Creative Technologies (University of Portsmouth, UK) to guide prospective students through the university admissions process. A novel feature within the chatbot is to present the end-user with a degree recommendation based on their profile. As such, Primary and Secondary research was carried out to examine the current market offerings, as well as to benchmark and validate the concept using end-user data. After completing the development of the chatbot, Usability testing was conducted to evaluate the chatbot’s performance and determine future development opportunities.
