Livingstone, Cain (2023) Terror on the Côte d'Azur: an analysis and evaluation of the method and motives behind the 2016 Nice attack. (unpublished BA dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
This project aims to analyse the methods behind the terror attack that occurred on the 14th of July 2016, in Nice, France, whilst also evaluating potential motivations of the perpetrator. Terrorism is a constant and relevant threat to modern society; however, it is often difficult to provide an understanding of methods and motivations. By using secondary sources and academic literature this project analyses the importance of location, timing, and delivery mechanism for the Nice attack before offering an evaluation of the probable motivations of the perpetrator referencing in particular French foreign and domestic policy as well as exploring whether there was a presence of symbolism behind the attack. By examining these issues, this project provides a deeper understanding of the methods and motivations behind one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in contemporary France.
