Abstract

The purpose of this project is to create English subtitles for a Chinese animated cartoon《德 政缘蛇》, and discuss the strategies used to overcome the challenges faced during translation and subtitling. The Source Text (ST) is one of the Chinese traditional virtues stories uploaded on Bilibili by Miaoyin.org company in 2019. The story represents Chinese culture and serves as an encouragement for people to treat animals with kindness and respect. In Confucianism, compassion is a significant moral criterion and a moral duty to animals (Chan, 2015).
