Money, Zara (2023) Reclaiming the Royal Navy: a material study of the warships in King Charles II’s Fleet c.1660-1685. (unpublished MA dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
Despite the importance of the navy in restoring the exiled king Charles II to his throne after the English Civil War, naval scholarship for this period remains largely understudied. Current research in this field has briefly focused on the Restoration Navy of Charles’ reign, but as part of larger studies. Instead, analyses has concentrated on Charles the man, or his political land-based campaigns. This dissertation intends to unite the separated areas of Stuart culture and naval studies together into one cohesive material and visual culture analysis of the Restoration Fleet.
