Abstract

Games are currently the biggest art form in the entertainment sector, reportedly worth more than the music and film industry combined. Wanting to create my own 2D point and click game as a novice game developer. I want to explore what tools are available and useful for someone who has no prior knowledge in making a playable game.

Traditional game development requires significant programming knowledge, and this project explores the feasibility of independent game development by a novice programmer via self-directed learning.

An engaging, fully playable 2D point and game has been created using a visual programming system and AI art generation. This report considers the impact of the trade-offs inherent in many computational systems designed to lower the threshold to entry. In this case, the project was made feasible by using predesigned computational programs which limited the expressivity of the game itself.
