Abstract

This study has covered the behaviour of players and what makes them spend currency on free to play games. In-game content has become extremely popular in video games in the recent years and is now a business model used by game publishers to generate profit. The study conducted primary research and secondary research surveys analysis highlighting the motivations. This study also focused on literature studies to identify what psychological aspects makes participant likely to drive them to purchase goods on Free to Play Games by using the Octalysis Framework and Operant Conditioning. The data highlighted the demographic of players that do play free to play free-to-play games and their reasoning behind any sort of purchases in those games that links to the literature reviews. Additionally, project management included how the research for this study was conducted with management software’s and milestones. Lastly, a conclusion was reached to identify the factors behind motivations of spending and gave an insight on what drives players to spend money.
