Mistry, Mya (2023) Jakarta: 2042. a CGI environment for film, based on scientific forecasts of global issues. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
The aim of this project is to explore the current CGI environment production pipeline used in the film industry and gain a greater understanding of how technological advancements are evolving the film making process. Based on these findings, a 3D CGI artefact will be produced of Jakarta in the year 2042, utilising industry standard processes and workflows. The artefact will be created using software packages, such as: Autodesk Maya, Adobe Substance Painter and Unreal Engine 5.1. Design choices will be made based on scientific data and forecasts concerning environmental issues the city is set to face. Social issues, as well as influences from Ridley Scott’s iconic sci-fi feature, ‘Blade Runner’ (1982), will also be considered. This report outlines the entire production process of the artefact and justifies the creative and technical decisions made
