Henman, Isabel (2024) How did feminists use poetry to challenge the situation of women in the Federal Republic of Germany between 1968-1989?. (unpublished BA dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
This dissertation aims to bolster the study of West German Second Wave Feminism by examining the ways women challenged their circumstances in society, with a direct and unique focus on feminist poetry. These sources will reflect notable insight into how the authors navigated a patriarchal, conservative society and advocated for themselves. Through the theological framework of emotion, themes of motherhood, employment and the sexual role of women will be explored and discussed, aligning with the main aims of the movement during this time. This dissertation will shed light upon the inner workings of women involved in the movement and the ways in which they communicated with each other and comment on the patriarchal oppression that they faced.
