Argyle, Thomas (2024) Translation and commentary of Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s and Marine Le Pen’s 2022 French presidential election leaflets. (unpublished BA dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
This research paper consists of a translation and commentary of Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s and Marine Le Pen’s 2022 Presidential Election leaflets. The purpose of the paper is to translate these leaflets in a way that a British audience would be able to comprehend the promises set out by the candidates, by either directly translating the promises or transposing them into the British system equivalents, as well as converting monetary promises into pounds sterling. The paper discusses the theories of translation and gives a justification of why I have made such translation decisions. This paper discusses the change in text type and challenges in cultural differences between the source and target culture.
